Role Overview
This position is for an ASU Facility Manager based in Otahuhu, Auckland. The role is responsible for leading site safety, reliability, continuous production, and quality assurance while acting as the key connection between on-site teams and remote planning/support functions. The goal is to maintain strong performance and ensure the site remains a trusted, high-performing operation.
Key Responsibilities
The Facility Manager will guide safe and efficient plant operations, strengthen reliability, and coordinate people, maintenance, compliance, and improvement activities across the site.
- Provide visible safety leadership by staying informed on workplace hazards, ensuring risks are controlled, and making sure the right resources are in place to reduce or eliminate exposure.
- Oversee the safe, dependable, and uninterrupted running of the Air Separation Unit (ASU).
- Work with the Primary Production support team and related functions to design and implement efficiency initiatives and reliability improvements.
- Ensure HSEQ processes are followed, including reporting notifiable incidents, consulting workers, and supporting training entitlements for health and safety representatives.
- Lead management review activities and put the regional roadmap into action.
- Partner on the Management of Change (MOC) process and keep Operating Manuals and SOPs current and easy to access.
- Set annual objectives aligned with Primary Production priorities and conduct annual performance reviews.
- Ensure the site team is fully qualified through on-the-job training and learning platforms.
- Act as the main contact for customers and regulatory authorities.
- Coordinate day-to-day maintenance and repair work to protect uninterrupted supply.
- Support cost-reduction efforts and monitor progress on performance improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts on new ideas and alternative operating methods.
Requirements
- A degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in industrial gases, specifically with operational leadership or plant running responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of ASU processes to support WHS due diligence and regulatory obligations.
- Ability to mentor team members, review competencies, build training plans, and encourage ongoing technical development.
- Strong commitment to safety, including ensuring workers are qualified and hazards are actively managed.
- Valid permanent New Zealand work rights are required.
