What the Data Team Does

The Calm Data Team is focused on improving business outcomes for Calm Consumer. The work starts with the business challenge first, then uses analysis to determine the best path forward. Problems may be simple or highly complex, but the team always relies on data to guide decisions.

Role Overview

As an Analytics Engineer, you will build and maintain scalable data models that support internal analysis, experimentation, and reporting across the business. You will work closely with stakeholders in product, engineering, operations, and data science to understand data sources and convert them into efficient analytical models and visualizations that answer business questions and communicate insights clearly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Improve and extend dbt-based data models, transforming raw inputs into reliable, business-ready datasets that support analysis of business and platform performance.
  • Work with both technical and non-technical partners to connect data insights with practical action.
  • Provide decision-makers with dependable metrics and data products.
  • Help build, test, document, and promote core data models across the organization.
  • Use tools such as Databricks, Airflow, Mode, and Tableau to help business teams uncover actionable insights.
  • Strengthen cross-functional collaboration across Calm to support successful delivery.

Examples of Prior Work

  • Built a reporting system in BigQuery with Data Engineering, including data replication, infrastructure setup, dbt modeling, and integration with reporting endpoints.
  • Created an alerting framework for critical business metrics.
  • Helped shape a data warehouse designed to serve many internal users, including analysts, engineers, product managers, and operations managers.
  • Developed a scalable pipeline for high-volume event data in the warehouse.
  • Created internal and external dashboards and visualizations used to communicate business narratives.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong background in data modeling and analysis of large-scale data using modern cloud platforms; dbt experience is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced SQL skills.
  • Hands-on experience with modern data stack tooling such as dbt, Databricks, AWS, and Airflow.
  • Experience using Tableau or a comparable BI / data visualization tool.
  • Prior Python experience.
  • Ability to turn non-technical business needs into technical solutions and connect technical work to business impact.
  • Strong skills in relationship management and presentations.
  • Experience with data documentation and testing practices.
  • Practical mindset with the ability to balance speed and rigor.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in digital consumer products or subscription businesses.
  • Experience supporting product analytics, experimentation, retention, or lifecycle marketing.
  • Experience working with Product, Growth, Finance, and Engineering stakeholders.
  • Experience modeling high-volume event and subscription data for self-serve analytics.
  • Experience preparing data for LLM use cases such as natural language SQL and tool calls.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or data science.
  • Strong SQL proficiency.

Compensation and Benefits

Calm uses a geographic pay model, so salary is based on where the employee lives. For this role, the expected base salary range is $147,000 to $225,000. Not every candidate will qualify for the highest end of the range. Final pay depends on factors such as location, skills, experience, and other qualifications. Salary is determined using the employee’s zip code.

This role is also eligible for equity, comprehensive benefits, a 401(k), and flexible time off.

Application and Hiring Notes

Calm may use artificial intelligence technology to assist with application review, but human reviewers remain involved throughout the hiring process. Employment offers depend on successful completion of a background check. Some positions may also require a drug screening if access to certain information is involved.

For U.S.-based roles, Calm participates in E-Verify to confirm work authorization through Form I-9. The company also lists right-to-work and E-Verify participation requirements.

Calm is committed to equal employment opportunity and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, marital status, ancestry, disability, medical condition, genetic information, military or veteran status, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic under applicable law. The company also emphasizes a respectful, inclusive, and harassment-free workplace where employees can bring their authentic selves to work.
